Terms of Use

1. These terms and who we are

These Terms of Use apply to the website at womenandgirlsalberta.ca and to the services we offer through it. By using the website you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the website.

Women and Girls Alberta (“the Society”, “we”) is a non-profit society registered in Alberta on August 31, 2026 under the Societies Act. We work to restore and protect the sex-based rights of women and girls through legislative advocacy, policy analysis, public education and the documentation of women’s experience. We are run entirely by volunteer Directors and Team Members.

In these Terms, “women and girls” means female persons: adult women, and girls under 18.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. It forms part of these Terms.

2. Using the website

You may use the website only for lawful purposes. You agree not to:

• harass, threaten or defame any person through any channel we operate, including the contact form and our social media accounts;

• send us information you know to be false;

• try to gain access to any part of the website or our systems that is not open to the public;

• interfere with the website’s operation, including by introducing malicious code;

• copy information from the website by automated means, such as scraping or bots, without our written permission;

• impersonate any person, including a Director or Team Member of the Society or a public official.

We may block access to the website, or decline to deal with a person, where these Terms or the law have been broken.

3. Share Your Story

Our Share Your Story intake is paused and is not accepting submissions. Section 5 of our Privacy Policy explains why, and what was done with the accounts already received.

Accounts already received. Each woman who gave us an account kept ownership of it and gave the Society a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use it for the purpose she was told about when she gave it, within the permissions she chose at the time. That licence continues. It does not extend to any other use.

When the intake reopens. It will carry its own notice setting out how accounts are handled, what permissions you can give, and how you can add to or withdraw an account. By giving an account you will keep ownership of it and grant the Society the same kind of licence, within the permissions you choose. You will be responsible for having the right to share anything you send, including any documents.

4. Other content you send us

If you write to us by email or through the contact form, you keep ownership of what you send. You give the Society permission to use it to reply to you and to deal with the matter you raised. We will not publish it, quote it or attribute it to you without your agreement, unless the law requires us to disclose it.

If you want us to use something you send in our advocacy, tell us so and tell us how you want to be identified, if at all.

5. Our content

The text, graphics, logos, photographs and layout of the website belong to the Society or are used under licence, and are protected by copyright.

You may share and link to our publications, and quote short passages from them, for non-commercial purposes, with attribution to Women and Girls Alberta. Our submissions to governments and legislative committees may be quoted in full with attribution. For any other use, including reproducing our logo, ask us first.

6. Information, not advice

No professional advice. The website is for general information and advocacy. Nothing on it is legal, medical, financial or other professional advice, and you should consult a qualified professional before acting on it.

No warranty. The website is provided as it is and as available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promise that it will be available at any particular time, that its content is complete or current, or that it is free of errors.

Links to other sites. The website links to other organizations’ sites. We are not responsible for their content, their privacy practices or their operation, and a link is not an endorsement.

7. Liability and responsibility

Our liability. To the fullest extent the law allows, the Society and its Directors, officers, Team Members and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive loss arising from your use of the website, including loss of data or loss of goodwill. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud or for anything the law does not allow to be limited.

Your responsibility. You are responsible for what you send us. If a claim is made against the Society or its Directors, officers, Team Members or volunteers because content you provided was unlawful, defamatory or infringed another person’s rights, or because you broke these Terms or the law, you agree to compensate us for the loss and reasonable legal costs that result.

8. General

Changes. We may update these Terms. The version date is at the top of this page, and we will say on the website when a material change is made.

Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the laws of Canada that apply in Alberta. Any dispute about them or about your use of the website will be decided by the courts of Alberta.

Severability. If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid, the rest continues to apply.

Whole agreement. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole of the terms between you and the Society for your use of the website.
