Dr. Kathleen Lowrey

Co-Founder & Director

Associate Professor, Faculty of Arts - Anthropology Dept (University of Alberta)

Kathleen Lowrey is an anthropologist.

In 2018, she published her first public statement defending women's sex-based rights at Feminist Current.

In 2020, she was fired from an administrative position at the University of Alberta because students complained about her speaking outside the classroom setting regarding the threat genderism poses to women and girls. She remains an associate professor of anthropology at the University.

In 2022, she had a peer-reviewed scholarly article accepted, rejected after acceptance but before publication, and then ultimately published alongside a special invited comment critiquing it. This was because her article affirmed that humans are a sexually dimorphic species.

In 2023, she and five co-panelists, all women, were removed from the schedule of a joint session of the American Anthropological Association and Canadian Anthropology Society. The reason given was because their accepted panel was slated to discuss the ongoing relevance of biological sex to anthropology. This was the first time in the 122 year history of AAA meetings that a panel was removed in such a manner.

In 2025, she was informed by Bonnie Doon Leisure Centre in Edmonton that men have the right to enter the changing room designated for women and girls, and if women and girls don't like it they can change in the unisex family changing room or they can stay home.

It's 2026 and she’s had enough.

She has published on these issues in scholarly journals and in Feminist Current, Quillette, Compact Magazine, Gender Dissent, Reality’s Last Stand, the National Association of Scholars blog, and on her Substack.

She has spoken several times in English at Women’s Declaration International “Feminist Question Time” and “Radical Feminist Perspectives” (available on YouTube) and in Spanish at the International Congress of Feminist Teachers for Co-Education and at the invitation of WDI-Mexico (also available on YouTube).
