Women's Rights, Community Organizing

Women's Space Vancouver is a Vancouver-based feminist organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the sex-based rights of women and girls. The organization is rooted in a feminist analysis that identifies gender ideology, neoliberalism, and patriarchy as intersecting forces that undermine women's rights, safety, dignity, and standing as a sex class. WSV operates as a women-only group committed to defending female-only spaces, sex-based definitions, and women's capacity to organize independently.

WSV's advocacy covers single-sex spaces in Vancouver and British Columbia, including washrooms, change rooms, rape crisis centres, and domestic violence shelters. The organization has made submissions to the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation on bathroom policy, the BC Centre for Disease Control on its language guide, the Employment Equity Act Review Task Force, the Office of the Correctional Investigator, and on legislation including Bill C-6 and Bill C-36. WSV has also opposed the BC Federation of Labour's call to recognize prostitution as work.

Women's Space Vancouver hosts educational events and speaker series, bringing gender-critical voices to Vancouver audiences. Speakers hosted include philosopher Kathleen Stock, For Women Scotland's Marion Calder and Susan Smith, Norwegian lesbian rights advocate Tonje Gjevjon, and Professor Mary Sullivan. WSV is affiliated with sister organizations including Vancouver Rape Relief, caWsbar, Feminist Current, the Vancouver Lesbian Collective, and the LGB Alliance.
