The Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI) is an independent, non-partisan Canadian public policy think tank based in Ottawa. Founded in 2010, MLI conducts research and publishes policy analysis across a wide range of areas including health policy, justice, Indigenous affairs, natural resources, and national security. It is widely regarded as one of Canada's leading conservative-leaning think tanks.
MLI has become an important platform for evidence-based analysis of paediatric gender medicine and sex-based rights policy. Mia Hughes — director of Genspect Canada and author of The WPATH Files — is a Senior Fellow at MLI, and has published research and commentary on gender medicine through the institute. MLI has also published broader policy work on the legal and healthcare implications of gender identity ideology in Canada.
The institute's work in this area represents a significant contribution to evidence-based policy debate in Canada, providing research infrastructure and credibility to arguments for reforming gender identity policy in healthcare, education, and law.
